Classic Margarita

I love a good Classic Margarita but they can be hard to come by… ughhh.

So many people and places make them wrong by using mixes, adding simple syrup or even agave (to try and reduce sugar but it doesn’t).

My parents lived in the mountains of Mexico before I was born and learned the art of making the perfect Classic Margarita. This version has no added sugar… Its pure, simple and divine!

Now keep in mind, when making a margarita the tequila does matter! Always pick a tequila made from 100% agave. I prefer a silver tequila but that’s just personal preference. My two go two brands are Don Julio Blanco and Casamigos.

I give a recipe below but this is how I eye ball it, especially when making a large batch.

  1. equal parts lime juice and Cointreau

  2. double that combined amount with tequila

  3. pour over a glass of ice OR pour in a pitcher, fill with ice and blend for frozen margaritas

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup fresh squeezed lime juice
  • ¼ cup Cointreau
  • ½ cup tequila (100% agave)
  • Ice

Instructions:

  1. Optional,  salt rim of glass (see note).
  2. Pour lime juice, cointreau and tequila in a tall glass or pitcher
  3.  Fill the glass with ice and pour on top OR pour margarita in a blender, fill with ice and blend.
  4. Enjoy!

Notes:

To salt the rim of the glass - squeeze a lime around the edge of the glass. Fill a small plate with sea salt, about ¼ cup, and turn the glass face down into the salt. You can choose to do the whole rim or only half.
